Brendan Sodikoff launched the soft opening of Gilt Bar (230 W Kinzie St) yesterday evening and I have absolutely no guilt about attending! The decour was super warm with lots of candles, unique light fixtures and antique wooden tables. And the food was even better. Between the whole table (it’s served family style) we were able to sample a large portion of the menu – I tried their (huge!) mussels, roasted bone marrow with red onion jam, liver pate, beef pot roast with red wine and glazed vegetables and house-made pasta with scallops. Everything was delicious, including their drink menu which is made up of micro brews, a decent wine selection (including quite good table wine for a reasonable $4/glass and $2 ice cold PBRs) and a cocktail list created by the Whistler’s top mixologist. And to top it off, almost all the food is locally produced. I’m already planning to go back next week!
