I’ve been listening to a lot of Knife Party this summer so I was happily surprised to find their song Bonfire featured in last week’s episode of Breaking Bad.  I can’t wait for tonight’s episode!  If you’re not watching Breaking Bad, do yourself a favor and change that.  Immediately.

I’ve been meaning to look into paddle boarding since last summer and I finally put in the two second effort required to Google “Chicago Paddle Boarding” and I happily found Great Lakes Board Company.  Lessons aren’t very expensive and after reading this REI Guide to SUP (Stand Up Paddle Boarding) I’m more eager than ever to give it a try!  Although, with our move just three weeks away I think I’ll wait until then to take a lesson.  Speaking of, I’m going to get back to packing up our apartment now…

What are you up to this weekend?  We’re going to a comedy show tonight at Lincoln Hall to see Neil Hamburger and Tim Heidecker.  Very excited for that!  Saturday Bob works so I use it as my errand and “catch up” day.  Then, on Sunday, we’re going to the Cubs vs. Cardinals game at Wrigley.  Should be a fun weekend!  Although, I’m really excited for next weekend when I get to go home for a few days and relax on my parent’s beach in Grand Haven, Michigan.

It has been a hot and stormy week in Chicago.  Today is overcast with rain on and off – just the kind of day that makes me long for my couch, pj’s, a good movie and some comfort food.  But, alas, I’m stuck in my office.  But I can dream, right?  So, let’s see… In an ideal world I’d be on this couch, wearing these super cute pj’s and watching Moonrise Kingdom.  And, when I got hungry, this Tomato Basil Soup with Grilled Cheese would magically appear in front of me.  What about you?  What’s your go-to movie and meal on a stormy day?

Last week Bob and I met some friends at the relatively new Emporium Arcade Bar in Wicker Park.  It’s filled with1980’s and 1990’s arcade games, including Mortal Kombat, Ms. Pacman, Duck Hunt, Space Invaders and Rampage.  You can check out the full list of their games here.

They have a decent, rotating craft beer selection and some high-end whiskey options.  While they don’t serve food, they do let you bring in your own.  We ordered pizza from Piece and had it delivered.  I can’t recommend this place enough, although I do recommend going on a weeknight as weekends supposedly get shoulder-to-shoulder packed.

Happy Friday!  What are you up to this weekend?  I’m having an early happy hour downtown with a friend, since I’m on summer hours and out at 1 today.  Tomorrow Bob & I are going to see the new Batman movie in an IMAX theater and on Sunday we’re going to a Breaking Bad meetup.  Should be a fun weekend!  Here’s a great remix by Soulwax to get you in the weekend spirit…

For my second week of picking three Pinterest recipes to make, I’m going with these No-Bake Cinnamon Cranberry Granola Bars from Food Doodles; this Southwestern Quinoa Salad from Ashley’s Cooking Adventures; and these fantastic looking Veggie Calzones from Leafy Greens & Me.  Which of these recipes would you most like to try?

As I mentioned in a previous post, I’m trying to start actually making some of the hundreds of recipes I’ve pinned over the past few months.  Last week I made this Roasted Red Pepper Chickpea Salad, this Goat Cheese Bean Dip & this Vegan Thai Pizza.

I loved the chickpea salad, although I put it on top of arugula rather than watercress.  I had some for dinner and saved the rest for lunch the next day and it held up well.  I also really liked the goat cheese bean dip, although it’s a time consuming dish.  The thai pizza was great!  I left off the non-dairy cheese (trying to eat less processed foods) and I didn’t miss it at all.  I wish I had also left off the cabbage – I’m not a fan – but otherwise it was fantastic and definitely something I’ll make again.

To be honest, I was more excited to try our new Le Creuset cookware than I was to try the dish…
